Richa Chadda is an Indian actress
who has repeatedly garnered accolades through her consistent portrayal of
unconventional characters in what is often sighted as off-beat cinema. She made
her Bollywood debut in the comedy-drama film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008).
Inspite of favorable reviews in the debut film, her major breakthrough came
only in 2012 with a two-part series crime film Gangs of Wasseypur. She was
awarded the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for her talent in the first
installment of the same film.
Her foray into main-stream cinema
began with a supporting role in the 2013 hit film Goliyon Ki Rasleela
Ram-Leela. Despite the relatively short screen time, she was nevertheless
praised for the conspicuous presence she imposed. Furthering her prowess, she
enjoyed critical acclaim and a standing ovation at the 2015 Cannes Film
Festival for her depiction of a girl in 'morality crisis' in the film Masaan
(2015). The film has been sighted as a new milestone in her career and through
it she is said to have created a niche for herself in the Hindi film industry.
Along side films,Richa who has
nurtured her craft through theatre plays, went back to it, essaying a role of a
married Delhi women in Trivial Disasters (2014). She claimed that doing plays
are her way 'to improve as an actor'.
